Secret armor: the Armadillo set
Most players outfit V with whatever loot drops — and miss the Armadillo crafting spec, which beats nearly all standard legendary clothing in the early-mid game.
What it is
- Armadillo mod spec — a craftable mod that adds flat armor + 35% ricochet protection per piece. Stacks across all 4 clothing slots.
- Base game-only — Phantom Liberty replaced ricochet calc but the mod still provides flat armor.
Where to find it
- Pacifica, Batty's Hotel area.
- Look for a specific clothing vendor in the alley near the parking structure.
- Buy the Armadillo mod spec — costs ~3,000 eddies.
- Returns to inventory as a craftable. Apply via crafting menu.
Why it matters
- Stack Armadillo mods on 4 slots (head, face, chest, legs) for +1,200 armor at level 30.
- Equivalent to wearing tier 5+ legendary clothing without any of the rarity grind.
Caveat (post 2.0)
The 2.0 patch reduced the per-mod armor amount by ~30% — still strong, no longer broken.
If stuck: if the vendor doesn't have the mod, sleep 24 hours and re-check. Vendor inventory rotates daily.
