Best house and wand setup for your first save

House choice, wand customization, and the one early choice that locks an exclusive quest.

Best house + wand setup

Your first 30 minutes lock in cosmetic and one quest-line decision. Here's what each choice actually does — and what doesn't matter.

House choice

  • Each house gets one exclusive side quest. Slytherin's is the most-talked-about (the Scrope/quill quest). Hufflepuff's involves a Brother Niamh haunting. Gryffindor and Ravenclaw have shorter exclusives.
  • House also affects the location of your common room and a few NPC reactions.
  • No combat / build difference. Pick what you'd roleplay.

Wand customization

  • All purely cosmetic.
  • Wand wood/core/length affect zero gameplay stats. The Sorting Hat ceremony asks you to answer questions but they only affect appearance.

Companion appearance

  • The character creator's body type / voice options affect almost nothing in dialogue. Romance options are NOT gender-locked the way they are in Cyberpunk — Hogwarts Legacy has no romances.

Save before Sorting

  • Make a manual save before the Sorting Hat scene. If you hate your house pick or want to redo your wand, this is the only retry point.

If stuck: if you regret your house at hour 10, there's no in-game switcher. New game required. The exclusive quest content per house is small (~30 min) so it's not worth restarting unless you really want it.
