How Merlin Trials work (and where to find Mallowsweet leaves)

95 Merlin Trials gate map fast travel + map upgrades. Here is how the system actually works.

How Merlin Trials work

Merlin Trials are environmental puzzles scattered across the open world. 95 in total. Completing them upgrades your gear inventory cap and unlocks fast travel.

To start a trial

  1. Find a trial marker — tall stone arrangements with a runic carving.
  2. Use Mallowsweet Leaves (place from your gear menu) — burns the leaves to activate.
  3. The puzzle activates with a 60-90 second timer.

How to get Mallowsweet Leaves

  • Buy seeds from Magic Neep in Hogsmeade — 100 galleons per pack.
  • Plant in a medium pot in the Room of Requirement Greenhouse.
  • Each plant yields multiple leaves on harvest. Plant 5+ so you never run out.

Trial types (you'll see all of these)

  • Light the braziers in order — use Confringo or Incendio.
  • Roll boulders into receptacles — use Wingardium Leviosa or Depulso.
  • Stand on platforms in sequence — sprint through them.
  • Destroy stone slabs — use Confringo + the right elemental sequence.
  • Mythbreak the bramble — Diffindo or Bombarda.
  • Hit moths into braziers — Lumos to attract.

Tips

  • Most are 30 seconds or less if you know what to do.
  • Map markers stay visible even from a distance — fly the broom and look for the rune symbol.

If stuck: if a trial activates and immediately fails, you don't have the right spell yet. Confringo (DADA Class 3) and Depulso (Charms Class 3) are the most-required for early trials.
