How to find the Phoenix
The Phoenix is the rarest beast in the game. Locked behind a postgame side quest, easy to miss because it's not flagged on the main map.
How to unlock
- Complete the main story first. The quest unlocks after the credits.
- Talk to Deek in the Room of Requirement. He gives you the side quest Phoenix Rising.
- Visit Poppy Sweeting — she has a tip about the Phoenix's nesting grounds.
Where to capture it
- The Phoenix's nest is in the southernmost reaches of the Highlands, near the cliff edge marked on Poppy's map.
- It only appears at night during specific weather (clear skies).
- Cast Disillusionment before approaching — it spooks easily.
- Use the Nab-Sack when it lands. Multiple attempts may be required.
After capture
- Place in the Forbidden Forest Vivarium — Phoenix has special biome requirements.
- It revives itself daily (in-game time) — never dies in your care.
- Brushing it grants Phoenix Feather, a Trait material that applies to all gear types and is top-tier rare.
Bonus — rare shiny beast variants (Arekkz's trick)
Any beast you've placed in a vivarium has a chance to spawn as a rare shiny variant:
- Capture standard beasts with the Nab-Sack and put them in the matching vivarium.
- Sell the standard variant back to Brood and Peck shop in Hogsmeade — they often pay a premium and respawn shinier.
- Some shiny variants are vivarium-only — once you have a base of one species, the next caught (in the wild) has a chance to be shiny-coloured.
The rare-shiny variants are pure cosmetic but feed Hogwarts Legacy's beast-completion trophy and also a bunch of Loom gear cosmetics.
Trophy
- Phoenix Rising — capture and care for the Phoenix.
- Required for Hogwarts Legacy platinum.
If stuck: if Deek isn't giving you the quest, you haven't completed all 4 vivarium unlocks. Make sure all 4 vivariums are accessible first.
