Chocobo riding & customisation guide

Different Chocobos for different regions. How to find and wrangle each one, plus what the cosmetic gear actually changes.

Chocobo riding & customisation

Chocobos aren't just travel — each region has its own breed with a unique traversal ability, and customising them is gated to a specific currency.

Wrangling a region's Chocobo

  1. Look for the Chocobo icon on the regional map — usually near the first Remnawave Tower.
  2. Some regions need a side quest cleared first before the Chocobo is wranglable.
  3. Wrangle by following region-specific minigames (chase, sneak, lure, etc.).

Region-specific abilities

  • Talon Chocobo — climbs vertical walls.
  • Mushroom Chocobo — bounces on giant mushrooms.
  • Glide Chocobo — limited gliding.
  • Aquatic / desert / canyon breeds have their own movement quirks per region.

Later you unlock other traversal methods that the game spoiler-keeps. Keep wrangling the Chocobo first — it's mandatory for region completion.

Chocobo Stops

  • Small wild Chocobos lead you to a Stop. Follow them — they take a winding path but always end at one.
  • Repairing a Stop:
    • Adds it as a fast travel point.
    • Rewards a Chocobo feather for cosmetics.
    • Lets you rest (recover HP/MP) using a Cushion (craft or buy).

Customisation — the two currencies

  • Chocobo Feathers → from repairing Chocobo Stops. Trade for outfits.
  • Golden Plumes → from wrangling new region Chocobos. Trade for accessories that affect Chocobo Racing stats.

Customisation is mostly cosmetic at first but affects stats during Chocobo Racing minigames later — so save plumes for racing accessories, not pure cosmetics.

Bonus — buried treasure

  • Riding a region Chocobo, watch for a blue question mark icon above its head. That's nearby buried treasure.
  • Sniff with the Chocobo to follow the trail. Ends at a digging spot, often near a group of rabbits.

If stuck: if your Chocobo won't repair a Stop, you don't have the right region's Chocobo. Each Stop is locked to its region's breed.
